AETHELSOHN Aqua Shard draws inspiration from fractured ice illuminated by the aurora.

The dial captures radiating cracks spreading outward across a frozen surface, together with the shifting light created as the aurora moves over the ice. Across the Shard collection, this concept is interpreted through different colors, with each version presenting its own expression of light over fractured ice.

In Aqua Shard, the design is expressed through a light-to-deep aqua gradient, smoked edges and layered visual depth. As light moves across the dial, its tone shifts subtly, revealing different reflections and emphasizing the fractured-ice texture beneath the surface.

The embossed brass dial is formed through hydraulic pressing, then finished with 20 individually brushed layers of fumé enamel lacquer. Each layer must be carefully applied to maintain an even surface and minimize bubbles or imperfections.

Every layer must be allowed to dry completely before the next one can be applied. Repeated across all 20 layers, this slow and demanding process gradually builds the dial’s aqua gradient, smoked edges and dimensional appearance.

The watch is powered by the PT5000 automatic mechanical movement and features a box-domed sapphire crystal with inner anti-reflective coating, Super-LumiNova® BGW9, a sapphire exhibition case back and 100 metres of water resistance.

Aqua Shard is inspired by fractured ice under the shifting glow of the aurora.

The radiating dial pattern recalls cracks spreading outward across a frozen surface. As light moves across the dial, the layered enamel finish reveals changing aqua tones, reflections and visual depth, echoing the way auroral light transforms the appearance of ice.

The Shard collection interprets this fractured-ice concept through different colors.

THE 20-LAYER DIAL PROCESS

The depth of the Aqua Shard dial is created through 20 individually brushed layers of fumé enamel lacquer.

Each layer is carefully applied to maintain an even surface and minimize the risk of bubbles or imperfections.

Every individual layer must be allowed to dry completely before the next layer can be added.

This process is repeated across all 20 layers and requires considerable time, patience and careful control at every stage.

As the layers gradually build, they create the dial’s aqua gradient, smoked edges and visual depth, while enhancing the radiating fractured-ice pattern beneath the finish.

ON-THE-FLY CLASP ADJUSTMENT

The on-the-fly clasp provides approximately 8.6mm of tool-free micro-adjustment.
